Cornwall Checkers To Tomkins For 2nd Straight Advance Series Triumph |
Cornwall, ONT – August 17, 2008 – By Tom Skibinski , Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series PR Director
For the second straight night Gary Tomkins hit on all cylinders and the end result was a command performance at Cornwall Motor Speedway to give him his second victory of the season in the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series show. Tomkins 16th career tour triumph was worth $6,000 in the 14th Annual Akwesasne Mohawk Casino International 100 and moved him into fifth on the Advance Series points chart through 18 events.
“It wasn’t from lack of trying before, we were trying everything we could, just weren’t getting results,” noted Tomkins, after matching his victory lane march taken the previous night on U.S. soil at Can-Am Motorsports Park. The wins were his second at both Cornwall at Can-Am, with each visit to the winner’s circle made in 2004. “This was definitely worth the wait as it certainly ends a lot of frustration.”
“Picked up this car a little while ago. We had a small-block (motor) in it and it was just sitting there. The guys at Bicknell said we want you to stick a big-block in it. We were so reluctant at the time but man, what a rocket,” gushed Tomkins, as he celebrated on the podium with crew chief Mike Payne.

Tomkins Breaks Through For 1st Advance Series Win In 2008 At Can-Am |
LaFargeville, NY – August 16, 2008 – By Tom Skibinski , Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series PR Director
Just two days earlier Gary Tomkins was in desperate need of a spark to ignite his team that had suffered through a summer of misfortune and missed chances. After posting a third-place best finish the night before, Tomkins finally lit the fire on Saturday at Can-Am Motorsports Park and went on to find victory lane for the first time in the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series by capturing the headline ‘F.X. Caprara Car Companies 100’ at the smooth LaFargeville, New York layout.
“Finally … it takes a few things to this and we got them all together on the same night,” said Tomkins, 42, following his 16th career Advance Series triumph and second at Can-Am since winning in 2004, the same year as his only overall Mr. DIRTcar Championship. “First off, we’ve got an awesome, awesome race car, that’s for sure.”
“The guys at Bicknell have changed some things and are trying out others, I think they work now. Obviously, my crew led by Mike Payne has had a big part. He’s been working nights not sleeping at all trying to get this thing ready. Thank God for Doug (Dulen, owner) still sticking with us. We’ve had some tough times this year, its really been a roller coaster ride, but boy this makes up for a lot. And the way this car performed tonight, it was something else,” remarked Tomkins, who improved after scoring his first top-three finish of the season 24 hours earlier at Brewerton Speedway to land a guarnteed starting spot in the prestigious Rite Aid 200 Championship race on Oct. 12 of Super DIRT Week XXXVII at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse .

Decker Does It Again With 8th Advance Series Victory Friday At Brewerton. |
|
Brewerton, NY – August 15, 2008 – By Tom Skibinski , Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series PR Director
For the eighth time this season Billy Decker came away with victory in the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series to extend his lead even further in the point standings. However, the seven wins scored prior to his first career tour triumph at Brewerton Speedway were scored in more convincing fashion.
In the Friday night nail-biter at the ‘D-Shaped DIRT Demon,’ Decker first swapped the point early on with Alan Johnson, then diced with Dale Planck the second half of the race before regaining the lead for good when Planck suffered a flat tire with just five laps to go.
